September 15, 2009 - On Friday, September 25, 2009 United Way of Central Minnesota will host its Annual Meeting and Day of Caring. The event will give a year in review, recognize United Way board members, present the first annual Live United awards, and highlight Day of Caring projects.

United Way Partners with Sports Illustrated Kids
August 18, 2009 - United Way of America has established an exciting new partnership with Sports Illustrated Kids (SI KIDS) to help recognize and celebrate young people who exemplify superior sportsmanship, academic excellence and civic engagement. United Way recognizes the importance of sports in a child’s development—on and off the field of play—and we’re proud to partner in the search for the 2009 SI KIDS SportsKid of the Year (SKOTY).
United Way of Central Minnesota Announces Community Investments
June 24, 2009 - The United Way Board of Directors announced funding decisions of $3,016,643 to 48 area non-profit organizations and special initiatives focused on education, income, health and basic needs. Earlier this year, the United Way Board defined outcomes in each of the priority areas and focused 5% of the allocable funds on financial stability, given the current need in the community.
Feed Our Families Successful in Raising Food for Our Community
April 6, 2009 - On Saturday, March 28, 2009, United Way of Central Minnesota hosted its Feed Our Families Food Drive. The event, which was held at the Electrolux warehouse in St. Cloud, served as the grand finale to the month’s food shelf campaign. Many members of the community generously gave their food, dollars, and volunteer efforts to make Feed Our Families a success.
$214,014 in Federal Funding for Agencies to assist with Emergency Shelter & Rent/Mortgage Available
February 4, 2009 - The local Emergency Food & Shelter Program Board, coordinated by United Way of Central Minnesota, was recently notified of federal program dollars available in our area. Funding levels are determined based on poverty and average unemployment statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor for the most current 12-month period. Benton, Stearns and Sherburne counties will receive $214,014 this year, a 35% increase from last year.
United Way Imagination Library Day at Barnes & Noble
December 28, 2008 - United Way of Central Minnesota (UWCM) raised more than $2,200 for books for children during Imagination Library Day at Barnes & Noble on December 6, 2008. The Otto Bremer Foundation will match the proceeds. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who purchased items and a special thank you to Barnes & Noble and the 51 volunteers who helped make this event possible by donating nearly 120 hours of time.
United Way's 17th Annual Day of Caring
September 25, 2008 - On Friday, September 26, 2008 employees from around Central Minnesota volunteered their time and talents for United Way of Central Minnesota’s 17th Annual Day of Caring. Bernicks Beverages & Vending and Coborn’s sponsored the event making it possible for local businesses to join with area nonprofit organizations to make a difference in the lives of people in the community.
United Way Presents Annual Champions of Caring Award
August 20, 2008 - The sixth annual “Champions of Caring” awards will be presented at United Way of Central Minnesota’s annual meeting on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn. The award is given to both an organization and an individual who exemplify community partnership and collaboration in improving people’s lives in Central Minnesota.
United Way Supports Prescription Drug Discount Cards
July 22, 2008 - Many American families currently have insufficient or no prescription drug coverage as healthcare costs continue rising. To help address this issue, FamilyWize offers prescription drug discount cards to help people lower the cost of their medicine with an average savings of 35 percent on prescription drug costs. FamilyWize cards are primarily for people with no health insurance or need medicine not covered by their insurance plan. There are no age restrictions, no income restrictions and no limit on how many times you can use the card. United Way of Central Minnesota (UWCM) is distributing cards free-of-charge as are more than 670 United Ways across the United States.
United Way Recognizes Community Support
April 17, 2008 - United Way of Central Minnesota announced the 2007 campaign successes at an event Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites. The annual “Celebrate Caring, Celebrate Community” is an effort to show appreciation to the thousands of volunteers, investors, companies, and community partners that impact Central Minnesota by being involved in United Way.
Llama Llama Read-A-Rama
April 3, 2008 - Thousands of children across the community participated in the second annual Llama Llama Read-A-Rama on April 3, an event to educate people of the importance of literacy. The St. Cloud Times and United Way of Central Minnesota Success By 6 partnered with fifteen community programs toencourage children to read through a variety of activities held throughout the day. The purpose of Llama Llama Read-A-Rama is to build awareness of why reading is important to a child’s future and how it can create valuable relationships. Reading allows parents and caring adults to interact with a child in a way that stimulates brain functioning, triggers imagination, and inspirescreativity.
United Way TOT Training - Increasing Financial Stability
March 19, 2008 - United Way’s Training Opportunities Team (TOT) will present a session at 8:15 a.m. on March 19, 2008 titled Increasing Financial Stability: Understand local realities and gain tools/resources to assist and empower consumers and employees when they are facing financial stress. The session will take place in the Windfeldt Room at the CentraCare Health Plaza. This training is geared to the interests of human services, employers, human resources, health care, education, faith communities, government organizations, higher education students, community volunteers, and the general public. A certificate of attendance will be provided. Registration is $15 per person and advance registration is required.
