United Way TOT training - Cultural Perspectives on Mental Health
October 23, 2007 - United Way’s Training Opportunities Team (TOT) will present a session on October 31, 8:15 a.m. - noon, titled Cultural Perspectives on Mental Health. The session will take place in the Windfeldt Room at the CentraCare Health Plaza. This session is geared to the interests of human services, employers, human resources, health care, education, faith communities, government organizations, higher education students, and community volunteers. A certificate of attendance will be provided. Registration is $15 per person and advance registration is required.
United Way 16th Annual Day of Caring
September 19, 2007 - On Friday, September 21, 2007 employees from around Central Minnesota will volunteer their time and talents for United Way of Central Minnesota’s 16th Annual Day of Caring. The Bernick Companies and Coborn’s sponsor the event making is possible for businesses to join with area nonprofits to make a difference in the lives of people in the community.
United Way presents Annual Champions of Caring Awards
September 18, 2007 - The sixth annual “Champions of Caring” awards will be presented at United Way of Central Minnesota’s annual meeting on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 7:30 a.m. at the Radisson Suites and Hotel. The awards will be given to both an organization and an individual who exemplify community partnership and collaboration in improving people’s lives in Central Minnesota.
United Way provides more than $3.4 million to community programs
June 27, 2007 - United Way of Central Minnesota’s Board of Directors approved $3,493,546 to be distributed to community human service programs. United Way of Central Minnesota currently operates program allocations on a three – year funding cycle, reliant on annual campaign results.
Women Experiencing Mental Health & Addiction Issues – Emerging & Innovative Treatments and Approaches
June 5, 2007 - United Way’s Training Opportunities Team (TOT) will present a session on June 27, 8:15 a.m. - noon, titled Women Experiencing Mental Health & Addiction Issues – Emerging & Innovative Treatments and Approaches. United Way’s Youth as Resources Recognizes Community Support
June 4, 2007 - United Way of Central Minnesota’s Youth as Resources held its seventh annual recognition celebration on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Riverside Park. The event, entitled "Recognizing Stars of the Community" recognized Youth as Resources Board members, funders and funded projects. The event highlighted the achievements youth have made in our community and showed appreciation to the numerous partners that join in supporting local youth.
United Way of America Honors Xcel Energy With Spirit of America Award
May 22, 2007 - United Way of America (UWA) presented to Xcel Energy on May 17th in Pittsburgh, Pa its most prestigious national accolade- the 20th annual Spirit of America Award – to recognize the company’s commitment to community improvement. Xcel Energy Chairman, Present and CEO Dick Kelly accepted the award at the 2007 United Way Staff Leaders Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa. Xcel Energy, a major electric and natural gas company based in Minneapolis, Minn. provides a comprehensive portfolio of energy-related products and services to 3.3 million electricity customers and 1.8 million natural gas customers.
Llama Llama Read-A-Rama: Stop and Read
April 16, 2007 - The St. Cloud Times and United Way of Central Minnesota Success By 6 are partnering with ten community programs to kick offt he first annual Llama Llama Read-A-Rama event. On the morning of April 20, 2007, thousands of children in the St. Cloud Area will stop and read at their elementary schools, child care centers, Reach Up classrooms, public libraries, and after school programs. United Way Recognizes Community Support
April 6, 2007 - United Way of Central Minnesota announced the 2006 campaign successes at an event Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites. The annual “Celebrate Caring, Celebrate Community” is an effort to show appreciation to the thousands of volunteers, investors, companies, and community partners that impact Central Minnesota by being involved in United Way.
Misunderstood — Clarifying Our Understanding of ADD/ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders
January 29, 2007 - United Way’s Training Opportunities Team (TOT) will present a session on February 28, 8:15 a.m. - noon, titled Misunderstood – Clarifying Our Understanding of ADD/ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The session will take place in the Windfeldt Room at the CentraCare Health Plaza. Anyone with a desire to gain an increased understanding of there diagnoses and what that means in working with consumers, coworkers and in navigating the system of mental health resources. This session is geared to the interests of human services, employers, human resources, health care, education, faith communities, government organizations, higher education students, and community volunteers. A certificate of attendance will be provided. Registration is $15 per person and the deadline is February 22, 2007.
$131,398 in Federal Funding for Emergency Rent & Homeless Shelters Available January 3, 2007 - The local Emergency Food & Shelter Program Board, coordinated by United Way of Central Minnesota, was recently notified of federal program dollars available in our area. Funding levels are determined based on poverty and average unemployment statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor for the most current 12-month period. Benton, Stearns and Sherburne counties will receive $131,398 this year, a slight decrease from last year.

Help Raise Resources for United Way's Imagination Library
November 21, 2006 - On Saturday, December 9, 2006, United Way is teaming up with Barnes & Noble to raise money for its Imagination Library program. Many special events are planned for the day including holiday carolers, readers in the children’s area and gift wrapping. Between 10-25% (depending on voucher sale volumes) of the purchases at Barnes & Noble that day will be donated to Imagination Library. A voucher can be found at www.unitedwayhelps.org. Participants simply present the voucher to the cashier at the time of the purchase.
Understand, Assess & Connect - Help for People with Mental Illness
October 27, 2006 - United Way’s Training Opportunities Team (TOT) will present a session on November 15 beginning at 8:15 a.m. titled Understand, Assess and Connect – Help for People with Mental Illness. The session will take place in the Windfeldt Room at the CentraCare Health Plaza. Anyone with a desire to gain an increased understanding of major mental health diagnoses and what that means in working with consumers, coworkers and in navigating the system of mental health resources.

United Way 2-1-1 Helps People Find Resources
September 20, 2006 - United Way 2-1-1 is a free, confidential phone call available 24 hours-a-day and 7 days-a-week just by dialing 2-1-1 or 1-800-543-7709. United Way 2-1-1 provides callers with information about and referrals to human services for every day needs and in timesof crisis. United Way 2-1-1 can connect you to resources including parenting and family services, housing assistance, food,health services, legal help, transportation child and senior services.

September 14, 2006 - The fifth annual “Champions of Caring” awards were presented at United Way of Central Minnesota’s annual meeting on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn. The award was given to both an organization and an individual who exemplify community partnership and collaboration in improving people’s lives in Central Minnesota. An additional award had been added this year to recognize an organization that provided extraordinary service to the Central Minnesota community during the past year.
Xcel Energy honored at 2006 United Way Community Leaders Conference
June 14, 2006 - United Way of America honored Xcel Energy as a Summit Award for Community Leadership recipient of its admired Spirit of America Award program, recognizing the company’s outstanding commitment to improve lives in local communities. United Way of America recognized Xcel Energy at its national United Way Community Leaders Conference in Denver, Colorado on May 18, 2006.

United Way Announces Imagination Library Kickoff
March 16, 2005- United Way of Central Minnesota is hosting a public celebration and program enrollment to announce the arrival of Imagination Library in Central Minnesota on April 9, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. –12:00 noon. United Way, as part of its Success by 6 initiative, has partnered with the Dollywood Foundation to offer the Imagination Library program to children in Central Minnesota.
