Meagan Loves to Swim

Activities that were once beyond Meagan's reach are now within her grasp, thanks to the assistance of a partner to help her with school activities. Despite her physical limitations, this help allows Meagan to do the activity she loves best, swimming. Meagan has found that her hearing disability and balance problem doesn't have to keep her from participating fully in various pursuits.

Along with Heidi, many parents of children with disabilities have noticed success because of this support. Improvements in the areas of social skills, self-esteem, specific activity skills, independence, and interaction with peers have been seen by 87% of parents.

Meagan's mother, Heidi, explained that although she has some physical restrictions, because of being able to participate in these activities, "Meagan feels like a normal kid."
Like many six-year olds, Meagan is spirited and wants to be independent. Helpers understand and encourage this desire while providing support and companionship through their presence. And teaches Meagan important developmental skills while she has fun.

Without her helpers, Meagan would miss out on many experiences every child should have. She is only one of the many Central Minnesota youth influenced by your investment in United Way.
